Needless to say that these are minimal requirements and that the instructor remains final judge as to evaluate his student and if necessary postpone the exam until the latter is sufficiently prepared.

It takes a minimum of 4 to 5 years of regular training (at a rhythm of 2 to 3 weekly courses) to form a good karate black belt.
